PETAL KINDNESS is a non-profit organization dedicated to brightening the South Lake Tahoe community through floral donations, promoting local community events, and diverting green waste from landfills.

We transform once-used floral arrangements into new bouquets to bring happiness to hospital patrons, nursing homes, shelters, mental health facilities, youth performances, educators, non-profit organizations fundraisers, celebration-of-life events, and community-focused events.

Studies show the flowers have a significant impact on mental health, emotional well-being, lower anxiety and stress, and deeper interpersonal connections.
— Jeanette Haviland-Jones, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Rutgers

We also divert these florals away from landfills and into compostable green waste streams by composting unused florals on-site and having floral recipients take the pledge to:

An estimated 40 - 100 lbs of floral waste is thrown away after most 100+ person weddings or events. We aim to collect a minimum of 100 floral donations for the 2024 season and divert 5,000 lbs of floral from the landfill into compostable waste streams!

HOW IT WORKS

1. It starts with a floral donation from a generous event host or retailer…

2. A Coordinator schedules Runners to perform the pick up and drop off

3. A Runner picks up your florals from your venue and drops them off at our office.

4. Kindness Volunteers transform florals into new bouquets to our community and compost the waste.

Why Tahoe locals only?

Our mission is to strengthen our local community connections… starting with a small bouquet. Most of our floral is donated to community causes, remaining floral is available for purchase to South Lake Tahoe locals to fulfill this mission.

Why only one bouquet per person?

We recognize, honor, and support the talented work of our local florists - the origin of most of our donations. Our mission is to brighten a day, NOT to take away support for our local florists. Purchase your fresh, curated arrangements for private events from one of our many local florists.
